Abstract

To analyze national articles about suicide risk related to users of psychoactive substances. This is an integrative review, carried out in the following databases: Latin-American and Caribbean Health Sciences (LILACS), and Nursing Database (BDENF). We used the following Health Science Descriptors (DECS): risk, suicide, and substance-related disorders. We selected complete articles, in Portuguese, published from 2010 to 2019, excluding duplicates, and those which did not answer the guiding question, totalizing five articles. From articles analysis, we noticed a high risk of suicide among substances users. Most users were males, single, and with incomplete elementary school studies. Among risk factors there are hopelessness feeling, lack of social/family support, stigma, and mental disorder suffering. About protective factors there are spirituality, social network support, work or school activities, mental or physical disorder continuous treatment, and fear of death due to pain. We conclude thus, a direct relation between these two issues, being necessary that we think of health policies to try and reduce associated risks, as well as the importance of carrying out more studies directed to this theme.
