Abstract

The Human T Cell Lymphotropic Virus (HTLV) is directly associated with lymphoproliferative diseases, which lead to disorders in the immune system of the infected individual. There are two ways to characterize this virus, being the type 1 HTLV related to the tropism it has by CD4 + T lymphocytes, while type 2 HTLV preferentially infects CD8 + T lymphocytes. The aim of this study was to investigate the characterization of the tests used to diagnose and identify the cases of blood donor individuals, infected by the HTLV-1 and 2 virus. The research was carried out at Scielo and Pubmed. After evaluating the articles using the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 10 articles were selected on the topic, being able to compose the present study. Through the research it was possible to observe that serology tests are widely used in blood banks, as a way of screening and searching for antibodies. As a confirmatory test, molecular biology tests are important to generate reliability and assertiveness.
