Abstract
OBJECTIVE: to identify risk factors for cardiovascular disease in undergraduate nursing students. METHODOLOGY: This is a cross-sectional study with 80 students of the Nursing Course. A questionnaire was used to identify cardiovascular risk factors and weight assessment, Body Mass Index, waist circumference, systemic blood pressure. This study is part of a research entitled Caring to prevent cardiovascular disease, which is approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Universidade Estadual Vale do Acaraú with the opinion number 2.312.655 and CAAE: 69035017.7.0000.5053. RESULTS: Of the 80 students who participated in the study, we found a predominance of risk factors for cardiovascular disease. It showed a significant number of students with a moderate to excessive stress level (87.5%), sedentary (70%) and with blood pressure levels above that recommended by the American Cardiology Association (62.5%). FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: It is relevant to reflect on actions that improve the quality of life of university students, since it is a time of discovery, more responsibility and even considered a stressor for some.
