Abstract

Taeniasis is a disease caused by the presence of the adult form of Taenia solium, Taenia saginata and Taenia asiatica, in the small intestine of its definitive host, man. The present study aimed to identify a prevalence of confirmed cases of Taenia sp. in the State of Pará between 2007 to 2016. For the study, data were obtained from confirmed cases of Taeniasis during 2007 to 2016 reported in the Schistosomiasis Control Program (PCE) available on the Department's platform Information System of the Unified Health System (DATASUS). In the State of Pará, 148 cases of Taenia sp. during the stipulated period of the research, with the municipality of Primavera being the largest with 71 infections. Despite the low numbers when compared to other parasitoses, what concerns the parasitosis most is the secondary infection picture called Cysticercosis, being a highly serious clinical condition if not diagnosed in time. Thus, it is necessary to add more studies of a regional nature in order to know or the real impact of the pathology in the State of Pará, considering that it is a parasite with symptoms that are often high or moderate.
