THE USE OF AUTOTRANSFUSION IN CARDIAC SURGERY AND BENEFITS OF ITS USE IN THE PERIOPERTATIVE: INTEGRATIVE REVIEW
Abstract
Autotransfusion derives from the intraoperative blood recovery process, which consists of recovering blood cells lost during surgery. Cardiac surgeries are large complex procedures that are characterized by a great loss of blood during their execution, most of the time requiring the replacement of this volume to avoid global repercussions on the patient. The present study aims to discuss which benefits the use of autotransfusion can provide for patients undergoing highly complex cardiac surgeries. This is an integrative literature review, carried out in 2019. The search and identification of the articles selected for data collection in this study were carried out in the following databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Virtual Health Library (BIREME). The analysis of information occurred through the methodological process of content analysis called categorization. The use of autotransfusion in cardiac surgery has the potential to provide the patient with a set of benefits that can encompass the entire perioperative period, revolutionizing the quality and safety of surgical and clinical treatment. Such benefits encompass both physiological aspects and social and ethical aspects.
