Abstract

The objective was to describe the development of strategies for greater adherence by the elderly in social groups, based on the extension experience of nursing students. Descriptive study with a qualitative approach, of the type of experience report, carried out in Sobral-CE from August to September 2018. The experiences took place during the extension actions of a module of the sixth semester of the Nursing Course at the State University Vale do Acaraú, in the elderly living group. The information was collected through participant observation and field diary. The Theory of Praxic Intervention in Nursing in Public Health was used to develop the experience and analyze the information. The results were organized and discussed using the following categories: “Situational diagnosis of the group”; “Elaboration and execution of adhesion strategies”; and “Evaluation of the intervention”. Among the strategies developed, active search, decentralization of activities and the use of active methodologies were identified as being potent in increasing the number of participants and fostering the desire to belong to the group. In addition, the experience contributed to the training of students, as it favored a closer relationship with the community and enabled the development of the ability to analyze and intervene in a reality, preparing them for the professional future.
