PAIN RELATED TO ENDODONTIC TREATMENT: A LITERATURE REVIEW
Abstract
The aim of endodontic treatment is to provide the body with the conditions to re-establish normal periapical tissues. However, there may be situations in which painful symptoms are present. This study aims to investigate the causes of post-operative pain. The SciELO, PubMed, BVS and BBO platforms were used, and 12 articles were selected. As a result, the articles present various factors that can potentially cause post-operative pain, some of which include: the patient's emotional condition, over-instrumentation, working length, single or multiple session treatment and the patient's diagnosis. Factors related to the instrumentation process are crucial in determining the incidence of post-treatment pain. Endodontic treatment can cause pain to the patient due to a number of factors, but the main ones are related to pre-treatment, such as anxiety and the diagnosis presented, and it is necessary for the professional to know the possible causes of discomfort and intervene.
