INSTITUTIONAL RACISM AND ITS IMPACTS ON THE HEALTH OF BLACK WORKERS: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW
Abstract
Institutional racism operates within institutions in a subtle and disguised manner, perpetuating a culture of inequality. In light of this, the aim of this article is to investigate, in the scientific literature, the consequences of institutional racism on the health of Black workers. This is an integrative literature review, and the guiding question was based on the PICo strategy. The search for articles was conducted in the following databases: MEDLINE via PUBMED, Web Of Science via Portal CAPES, and Scopus via Portal CAPES. In the search, a total of 112 publications were retrieved, but after the analysis of inclusion and exclusion criteria and full-text reading, 4 works were included in the final sample. These works presented factors confirming that skin color remains a marker for disparities in the workplace, reflecting the institutional racism present in society that negatively affects the health of Black workers. Thus, institutional racism interferes with health and undermines the well-being of Black workers.
