Patient safety involves the attitudes of professionals, management, users, family members and the organization itself in providing health care, through actions of co-responsibility and autonomy. The objective was to identify the commitment of nursing professionals with the patient's safety in the scope of Primary Health Care. Descriptive, exploratory study, with qualitative approach, carried out in six Family Health Centers in the city of Sobral (CE), with the participation of 18 professionals. It was evident that the sharing of incident situations and their possible solutions are attributed to management, through weekly meetings. Communication failures among professionals were observed during the work process. However, management sought to anticipate the prevention of errors in the service, through prior recognition of risks and quick responses to occurrences. Nursing professionals need to qualify their actions when facing wrong and unsafe situations for the patient, by building a culture of safety that encompasses attitudes, collective responsibility, effective communication, a non-punitive environment and leadership support.
