Abstract

Textbooks are important tools for education, both for ease of access and ready-made information tailored to the student level. In the case of biology works, they must present contents about the various existing organisms, such as those concerning lichens. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze the subject “lichens” in the high school biology textbooks suggested by PNLD 2018, besides providing information that helps in choosing the textbook that best represents these beings. Ten collections were analyzed, noting that the references made to lichens were fragmented, in distinct volumes within the same collection, mainly linked to chapters on fungi and ecological relations. Several shortcomings are noted, especially in the approach to the theoretical content and lack of complementary resources. However, most of the images are of satisfactory quality and there are marked presence of exercises in the works. It is concluded that the books are endowed with deficiencies in the approach of the lichens, being necessary improvements.
